Old Fashioned Wedding Cake with Sea Foam Candy Icing

I have a customers of course that I just love and value their patronage. One of my favorites is Lou Powell, her son David and his new wife Kim. This family called me 5 months ago, to see if I would make a very old recipe pound cake that Lou’s mother used to make and no longer can. She had called numerous bakeries and no one had heard of the icing, nor was willing to work with them on recreating it for David and Kim’s wedding cake. Always being one to accept a challenge, I invited the family in to test the initial cake. The first test which required old time candy making came out a little loose, but the family was willing to let me try it again. It seemed that I nailed it the second time and the race was on after that. Lou and Kim later ordered a gift box cake cake for David’s birthday, and then surprised him with another cake this time in fudge icing for their rehearsal dinner Friday night (Rehearsal Cake From Better Homes and Garden Dec. Issue). Also that Friday night I poured on the hot candy while my husband watched. After testing the cakes we knew the cake would be somewhat rough around the edges but this cake and the taste meant more than a flawless finish. The family was soooo happy to have their grandmother’ pound cake recipe, I want my customers to be happy, and I think that I have shown that. Thank You Lou!

Corporate Cakes: The New GE Nuclear Power Plant.

Here is my version of  The World's Safest Nuclear Power Plant.  I was contacted by an engineer at GE to come up with a Nuclear power plant to celebrate a new Sustainable Plant being built in Virginia,   that was somewhat fun and playful.  Having already such a full plate and only contacted  just days ahead, I had to come up with a plan of action.  I asked him if I could make the building Wonky which means to lean to onside and he was fine with that.  Making structural buildings in a short amount of time is very, very hard so I knew that I was making the right decision to make it more topsy turvy.  The cake is all edible, including the windows.  We placed a radio on the cake for a joke that read “Radio Activity”, which received a big laugh! dumprGE_pic

Old Hollywood Wedding Cake: Cape Fear River Deck. Carolina Cakes & Confections

wedding cakes 09 043  As a reminder I am way behind in my postings because my computer had died right before the new Windows 7 came out and we had to wait until its release.  We made this cake for an Old Hollywood Glam Themed Wedding.

Marilyn Monroe

It was actually the Groom that insisted on the lace theme.  I knew that Vintage Spanish Lace would be the most Glamorous,  Most Vintage way to go, so we went for it.  We drenched this cake in Lace details, and decided to go “Old School Hollywood" on the Bottom tier.  It was an amazing night and the guests applauded as we entered the River Deck with the cake.  I’m provided these old Hollywood photos for your enjoyment.  To the left is Rita Hayworth who is stunning in Duchess Satin Lace.  We have the wedding cake for Princess Grace of  Monoco who was the pinnacle of  Hollywood Glam, and we have a beautiful Spanish Lace wedding gown for your enjoyment.
